Civilization 1 - Nostalgia find

Two weeks ago I was about to make maintenance-service on of our cars and

drove to a nearby village about 30km away from our home.

Because my wife has the other car I was stuck in this village until the

service was done but this was certainly not a problem because the sun

was shining and a break in the hectic everyday-life was more than welcome.

I started the break with a swedish fika and after that I Went for a walk

in the city-center and visited the local second-hand-shop runned by the

Church. The second-hand-shop was one of the largest Iever visited and

in 3 floors. I didn´t have any expectations and was very happy when I

found the computer-game Civilization 1 in original package from the

1980-ies. It was in good condition and nothing was missing and the price

was even better, 4 Euros! (on the internet I have found prices from 100 and

even 400 Euros for this game but the most expensive are also sealed)

The only backside is that this game is designated for Mac but nevertheless

I am very happy with this find because in my childhood I really loved this

game.

The game for those that don´t know is a turnbased game that gives you the

role of simulating a king or a ruler of a growing country/civilization

and it involves science, economy, culture, building and military.

I like this games very much because it is never monotonous and eventhough

the graphics are very basic and never live up to todays standards I also

like the artistic design.

You start with a black map and your first units explore and then the map

reveal land,islands, rivers and oceans.

In my growing Collection I have Civ 1-5 but also Test of time(not on picture).

The last Civilization 6 and don´t know that much about but I will for sure

buy me a copy of this in the future.

Last but least on my visit to the shop I bought a book about calligraphy

and one book about how to read drawings.

I also found another computergame named Napoleon - total war, two tin-soldiers

and a BIG medieval siege-tower. The tower is not in the right scale for 28mm

but will be used in big fantasy-battles anyway. :)

To share my joy of this/these finds I give you a:"what´s in the box".

Enjoy! :)

My own 3d-printed Borgward Wanze

Next project is to make a small but very nice-looking

model called Borgward. The small tracked vehicle was

produced by the germans and two variants are in my

opinion more interessting than other.

I will make my version of the Tankhuter (Wanze) with

6 tubes firing panzerschreck-rockets and the Demolition

carrier that was remote-controlled, and when arrived near

its target it could release a big box in the front carrying

450kg of explosives.

I have been looking for both these two models in the

15mm-scale but until Battlefront realeased their new

Berlin 1945 to the game Flames of War version 4 they

were hard to find, and I decided to make these myself.

Some work is still to be done with both models (smoke-

grenades-launchers in the front on the Wanze and the

fittings of the 6 panzerschrecks and also som minor details

on the demolition carrier).

Eventhough there has been a lot of work on the free-time

(when all the rest of the family has been sleeping) it was

worth it and next report will show the 3d-printed result.

3D-printed trucks - testprint

Visiting 3D-meetup here in Sweden two years ago

made me curious about start drawing models to

3D-print but the variety of printers are vast and I

am a novice in this area som I decided to test in a

smaller scale before actually buying a printer of my

own. The CAD-work is not new for me because I

have been working with 3D-graphics for more than

15 years as an engineer within carpentry and interiors.

I decided to both test some models in the scale 6mm

and 15mm and I downloaded all the models for free

from Thinginverse. The models were drawn in various

scales but it was not hard to scale right.

The result was very good using resin but tricky to

realease from the mould-extras. The printing of wheels

were especially hard and I need to fix this before

painting. I will use base-plates for all these models so

I think when finished and fixed they will look really good.

Next report I will go into detail on each model.

by my then so little counterforce.

I have invested in artillery and logistics this time.

Red storm is rising 2

To make a diverse soviet-invasion-force I decided to
upgrade and complete my collection of land-forces.
I bought all the models from my friend Michael from
Barnsley in the UK and he guided me all the way to
assemble the small parts and bits.

I bought this:

Gaz 69 jeep  (4 pcs)
UAZ 469 jeep (2 pcs)
URAL truck (6 pcs)

ZU-23-2 AA (6 pcs)
BM-21 rocket (3 pcs)
9K52 Luna Frog-7 rocket (6 pcs)
2S3 Akatsiya 152 SPG (8 pcs)
2S1 Gvozdika  122 SPG (8 pcs)
SA-8 Gecko AA (3 pcs)
SA-13 Gopher AA (6 pcs)

SNAR 10M1 Radar

T62 with mineroller (4 pcs)
Brem 80U engineering vehicle (4 pcs)

I also got 2 extra MT-LB-chassis I am not sure if
I will decide to use these as Storm(antitank), Gophers(AA)
or maybe as a mobile rocketlauncher similar to BM-21!?

All the models are beautiful detailed and with some
paint they will come alive.

To base them will probably be fitted with rectangular
plates that will be almost as big as the model because
I am not so fond of the square-shape 30x30mm that is
the most common one.

All the models are made in the scale 1/285 (6mm) and
will be a part of my project Cold war-Sweden anno 1985.
